2022 Nonnengarten VDP.ERSTE LAGE

The site “Nonnengarten” is located to the west of the Marienburg, and it faces southeast. The soil consists mainly of red slate with some parts of heavy loam; it is marbled and somewhat heavier than the other parts of the Marienburg site.
The Riesling grapes that grow on this soil show a unique spicy and earthy character and a distinguish slate minerality.
The grapes get handpicked at the end of October. They get gently pressed and will ferment spontaneously in old “Fuder” barrels. In the cool cellar, fermentation often lasts until summer. The wines are bottled after around 10 to 11 months in the barrel. All our wines get treated with the lowest intervention possible.
The long maceration time on the lees gives our wines a great structure and excellent aging potential.
