2022 Riesling "vom blauen Schiefer" VDP.ORTSWEIN

“Vom blauen Schiefer“ translates to “on the blue slate”. As the name suggests, the grapes for this wine grow on the steep slopes of our vineyard site Pünderich Marienburg, where the blue slate is the predominant soil structure. Located close to the shore of the Mosel and south facing, it is probably one of our warmest vineyard sites. The hard and dark slate challenges the vines each day. A terroir which is tasteable in the wine - strong mineralty guided by herbarl, minty flavours and yellow, citric fruits.
The grapes get handpicked at the end of October at about 85-90° Oechsle. They get gently pressed and will ferment spontaneously in old “Fuder” barrels. In the cool cellar, fermentation often lasts until summer or even longer. This wine is bottled after 10-11 months in the barrel. All our wines get treated with the lowest intervention possible.
The long maceration time on the lees gives our wines a great structure and excellent aging potential.
