A mere 2 kilometres separate our two locations and thus also our local vineyards – but what happens above and below the sacred earth covering these few metres could almost be described as mystical. Or even “arg” – mad. It just doesn’t sound quite international. Whatever. Both local wines are characterised by their striking finish, their freshness and tension. Deutsch Schützen applies a little more pressure, intensively herby, earthy. An athletic Blaufränkisch bearing ripe, dark berries in its deep blue veins. Eisenberg is a little more thoughtful. Always a little lighter, with vigorous tannins, a hint of liquorice, a drop of citrus and major substance. Eisenberg Age of the vines: 30 – 45 years Soil: ferrous green schist with a layer of loam & gravel
