BASILICATA
Our winery was founded in 2000 at a time when our family was discussing whether to sell the beautiful vineyards surrounding the house where I grew up. The vineyards were purchased in the 60’s by my grandfather Generoso, who chose to buy the highest part of the vineyard in Contrada Solagna of Titolo at the foot of Mount Vulture (an extinct volcano). The winery came to life with the 2000 vintage concurrently with my studies at the Faculty of Viticulture and Enology. Initially, we were assisted by an external consultant, while in 2004 all facets of the winery were taken over in first person. The choice from the beginning, without any regret, was to stake everything on a single label, the “TITOLO” envisioning it as a high quality, first class wine or “cru”. A unique wine for objective reasons related to the yields of the vineyards and the quality of the vines, considering their age. A unique wine to best represent the characteristics of the Aglianico grape and the territory of the Vulture, where the particular mix of microclimate and terroir transmits to our wine one of the best and most unique expressions of this fabulous area that is Contrada Solagna del Titolo. My interpretation of the territory is defined by industry insiders as “modern but not modernist”. Modern for being able to understand the real needs of the Aglianico variety in terms of maturation and aging, but always without changing the characteristics of the fruit that the vineyard yields in this wonderful corner of Italy. The new Winery recently the new winery was completed, built adjacent to the old cellarand in communication by a tunnel dug in volcanic rock. The new structure is built according to the principles of ecological design using recycled materials and recycling and with technologies for reduce to zero the impacts and energy consumption.

Aglianico del Vulture DOC
Aglianico del Vulture 100%
Red wine
The grapes, collected in small baskets are taken directly to the cellar for selection and removal from the vine. The whole grapes are then put into steel tanks for the alcoholic fermentation (maceration lasts the same amount of time as fermentation). Afterward the ‘must’ is ‘drawn off’ and the dregs are soft pressed. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barriques of 200 l. (50% new) for a total of 12 months. Additional aging takes place in bottles for 12 more months before release. Intense ruby color with strong garnet reflections. Ample and complex perfume, decidedly mineral, fruity and ethereally youthful with clear spicy hints. Aroma provokes strong sensation of cherry, currant, rosemary, tobacco and cinnamon. Has a dry, warm flavor, broad structure and persistent, aromatic and long finish. Wine of strong personality, representative of its territory and destined to have a great future.

Selection of the grapes, destemming and with almost whole berries ferments in an untreated terracotta amphora from the Impurenta (Florence) at controlled temperature with maceration on the skins for the whole time of alcoholic fermentation (12-13 days) with continuous delestages and replacements. Separation of the must from the skins, soft 1-atmosphere pressing, and subsequent malolactic fermentation always in terracotta. Ruby intense with garnet reflections, perfume and large complex with spicy sharp hints of peppers and jam fruit currant and tobacco. Big aromatic persistence with large structure and strong personality ‘sin by youth’ thanks to minerality and sapidity even more pronounced.

The Verha project starts in 2022 with the aim to provide younger ready-to-drink wines able to represent the essence of the Vulture terroir. It has a social value since the grapes for making the wines come from the winegrowers in Barile, the same community as Elena Fucci belongs. Before the pandemic period, the local winegrowers used to trade their own grapes with the large wineries of the area making “garagiste-style” wines. Failed this trade, Elena and the winegrowers agreed to use the grapes to make Verha wines, to support the community and avoid the desertion. Verha means wine in the Arbëreshë language spoken by the Albanese minority residing in the Barile village since the fifteenth Century. Colour: ruby red with purple shades Mose: young red fruit with slightly coffee notes Palate: balanced and fresh with right tannins and savoury aftertaste. Volcanic mixed with clay, height: 650 asl, exposition to south/south-east, continental weather (snowy winter, warm summer, overnight temperature range)
