Lodovico Antinori and Tenuta del Nicchio: the New and Final Project with his Daughter, Sophia Antinori
This project marks a return to Bolgheri for Lodovico Antinori, one of the leading figures who helped shape this legendary region of global enology alongside prominent visionaries of the late ’70s and early ’80s. Tenuta del Nicchio stretches across 12 hectares of vineyards nestled between woodlands and hillsides, including vineyards near the iconic Tower of Donoratico.
The estate currently produces only 10,000 bottles of the prestigious Lodovico a blend of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Merlot-represents Lodovico’s legacy in a bottle. The estate’s future wine, Il Nicchio, will be composed primarily of Cabernet Franc, with a small percentage of Merlot in select vintages, with a production target of 30,000 bottles. Accompanied by Le Due Ville del Nicchio, a second wine, both wines carry the hallmark “M.L.A.” (Marchese Lodovico Antinori) and are intended to mirror the deep bond between father and daughter.
Embracing a philosophy that aligns with contemporary tastes, Tenuta del Nicchio is dedicated on crafting wines with lighter body and less powerful, a shift from the concentrated wines of the 1990s. These terroirs, with their unique exposure and location, promise to let Bordeaux varietals express themselves in a new way, with distinct character and elegance.
