Wine-growing region:
Toscana
Castiglion del Bosco is rooted in ancient origins: the estate has maintained the same borders for eight centuries. An ode to the beauty and uniqueness of a place that covers approximately two thousand hectares, a place where biodiversity and microclimate contribute to setting the rhythm of nature, and where winegrowing can bring out expressions that can be found nowhere else in the world.
Originally a small village belonging to the municipality of Montalcino, today Castiglion del Bosco is a company whose history intertwines with Brunello: the winery is one of the founding members of the Consorzio in 1967.
Castiglion del Bosco is one of the top five producers with the vastest acreage in Montalcino, but vineyard management is carried out like in a small winery. There are 62 hectares of vineyards teeming with distinct characteristics and specific identities: a puzzle of diverse soils and microclimates, ideal for exploring and emphasizing the concept of “cru”, which allows the wine’s true identity to express itself. The vineyards are consistently cared for by a trusted and visionary technical team and organic farming – certified since 2016 – is a natural consequence of the ongoing pursuit of balance. This is the result of tailored attention to detail and a deep understanding of every plant, guided by an essential respect for nature and its rhythm.
Aside from the winery, Castiglion del Bosco also provides luxury accommodations in the restored village and scattered villas within the 2,000-hectare estate, as well as a private 18-hole private golf club.
Rosso di Montalcino DOC
100% Sangiovese
Red wine
Castiglion del Bosco’s first single vineyard Rosso di Montalcino, Gauggiole was first produced in the 2015 vintage. This wine takes its name from the ancient farmhouse situated in the homonymous parcel of vineyard.
The 2021 vintage is characterized by temperatures below average in spring and summer. The summer drought was well compensated by copious rains in May, which allowed the plants to maintain a good state of hydration. Summer was abruptly interrupted in late August with afternoon thunderstorms for a few days followed by a cool and sunny period.

Deimassi takes its name and essence from the massive stone blocks that were found in its plot of origin, the Deimassi parcel, when the ground was being prepared for planting. It has typical characteristics and body of a Brunello in that it comes from an extremely vocated area of the Capanna vineyard.

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
100% Sangiovese
Red wine
Brunello di Montalcino is the authentic expression of the “parcelized” soul of the Capanna vineyard, based on meticulous attention and respect for the unique characteristics of its terroir.
The 2020 harvest at Castiglion del Bosco was marked by a dry winter and a cool, rainy May, which provided ideal conditions for the initial growth of the vines. However, the summer was hot and dry, with 64 consecutive days without rain, putting the vines under significant stress. A late August rainfall allowed for the monitoring of grape maturation, but high temperatures and low day-night temperature variation accelerated the ripening process. The harvest began on September 3 with grapes picked to benefit the remaining clusters and concluded at the end of the month. The resulting wines are fresh, fragrant, with good aging potential.

Campo del Drago originates from the highest and rockiest plot of the Capanna vineyard, which is also one of the oldest.
The name comes from the shape of the moat that bounds its perimeter,
whose shape, in the eyes of the farmers, resembled that of a dragon's tail. The first vintage of this wine is from 1999.

The 2019 vintage is characterized by a dry winter with below-average rainfall, which was then largely recovered in a cool and rainy spring. Mild summer with no excessive temperatures. The rains returned in late August, followed by a cool and breezy September that gave the grapes plenty of time for optimal ripening.
