I Vigneri "philosophy"
I would like to give you some further information about our work, wines, my life and our production
"philosophy".
We have 5 hectares of vineyards, n. 40 terraces, about 10.000 square meters of dry stone walls:
-East Etna, 3,5 hectares in Milo, Caselle contrada: Carricante and Minnella and other varieties in
small quantities, 750 meters above sea level;
-North Etna, 1 hectares in Castiglione di Sicilia, Porcaria contrada (today called: Fuedo di Mezzo),
Caldera sub-area: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Granaccia (Alicante), Francisi, 580 meters
a bove sea level.
-North-west Etna, half a hectare in Bronte, Nave “contrada”, Ilici wood sub-area (indigen oak, called
in latin name quercus ilex), 1250 meters above sea level.
Our vineyards are all owned, we don't buy grapes, we don't have vineyards for rent: in this way we
have 100% control of our grapes. All our vineyards are in Alberello Etneo ( the Alberello cultivation
on Etna is almost 2,000 years old), cultivated in the traditional way as has always been done on Etna
We cultivate our native vines in their original and ancient places: the Carricante in Milo (East Etna)
at 750 meters above sea level; the Nerello mascalese, Cappuccio on the north side at 600 meters
above sea level; the grenache, the black Minnella and the white minnella in the North West of Etna
at 1250 meters above sea level.
All our vineyards are terraced to preserve and safeguard the land;
All our vineyards are within natural ecosystems, oak, chestnut, wild aromatic plants (oregano,
thyme, helichrysum, giant valerian, etc ..) to preserve and encourage insects such as bees,
butterflies, etc. Our vineyards share the land with native plants: apples, cherries, pears, hazelnuts,
plums and strawberries to reduce the impact of monoculture and increase biodiversity.
