Wine-growing region:
Balaton - Badacsony
GILVESY is situated on the slopes of Szent György-Hegy (Mount St. George), one of the ancient volcanic buttes located north of lake Balaton in Hungary. Szent György-Hegy is in the Badacsony appellation.
Robert Gilvesy established the winery in 2012 and now produces organically grown grapes on 15 hectares. Through minimal intervention in the cellar, GILVESY focuses on the expression of place, it being one of Hungary’s historically significant wine regions. Our traditionally significant varietals include Riesling, Riesling Italico, Furmint and Kadarka. Sauvignon Blanc, introduced to Szent György-Hegy in the 1970’s has also become a confident conveyor of our terroir.

Olaszrizling
White wine
The playful of the Pixu bunch - a dry, organic Olaszrizling(Welschriesling) from the Váradi vineyard. Spontaneously fermented in egg-shaped fermenters and kept in inox on fine lees for 6 months. Playful yet elegant, with honeysuckle and green apple notes on the nose and a smoky bitter almond finish on the palate. The perfect summer companion for apero bites, like lightly aged cheeses, nuts, or smoked ham.

Furmint
White wine
The reeeeally cool one of the Pixu family! Organically farmed Furmint, hand picked and gently pressed, matured in stainless steel tanks and Flex Cubes, and kept on fine lees for 6 months.
A multidimensional, yet unpretentious wine, with ripe melon, peach and apricot and a slight floral end on the nose. On the palate - a surprising, zingy persian lime “cocktail” mixed with an almost sake-like, toasted rice finish.

White wine
We wanted to bring a wine to life that represents the true nature of our little mountain - the uplifting energy of the hero, St. George and the beauty of working with the treasures of Earth and taking care of them. Organically farmed Furmint, Riesling, and Welschriesling - all hand picked, and spontaneously fermented. Matured in stainless steel tanks, FlexCubes and 500L used Hungarian oak barrels on fine lees for 7 months.

Sauvignon Blanc
White wine
Sauvignon Blanc from Hungary. Not exactly the classic grape variety at Lake Balaton! It turns out quite different here than expected. A relic of communist era master planning, the wine comes from the cool north side of the extinct volcano Mount Saint George. The wine’s aroma is more defined by its volcanic terroir than the grape itself, with exotic, yellow fruit notes dominating the nose. A salty, piquant minerality comes through on the palate, offering refreshing yet surprisingly soft acidity. The mouthfeel is soft and fresh, with a gripping, salty sensation that lingers. Only in the finish does a subtle hint of Sauvignon Blanc emerge, rich in texture and less defined by the grape than by the unique influence of its origin.

Furmint
White wine
A nutrient-rich soil that produces a minerally salty Furmint that has an intense mouth-filling effect. Its almost honey-like aroma exudes the scent of candied fruit, the aftertaste on the palate is dense and spicy. Although it has a much more yellow fruity and white-flowered scent than Furmint from Tokaj, it has neither fat on the hips nor sugar in its tail. It is bone dry, pleasantly light in alcohol, fresh and direct on the tongue, salty and yellow in a mouth-filling umami sensation. The scent that unfolds in the glass is reminiscent of fresh hay and a hint of saffron, typical of Furmint. Its complex character is sensually stimulating and promises long storage potential.
