Château Fonroque was bought in 1931 by Adèle and Jean Moueix. Alain Moueix, their great grandson, has been at the head of the estate since 2001. He introduced there a way of working based on a deep respect for the environment, leading to be certified in organic viticulture since 2006 and biodynamics since 2008.
In 2017, the estate was bought by the Guillard Family. Conscious of the value in continuing to practise this essential work, the new owners have asked Alain Moueix to remain as an active consultant in the management of the estate over the coming years.
The vineyards are a mosaic, composed of the three major soil types found in Saint Emilion. In order to be more precise during the blending and to reveal our terroir, we are building a new vat room, which will receive smaller tanks allowing us to bring a refined touch to the final blending.

2016 Château Fonroque

SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU CLASSE
90% Merlot 10% Cabernet franc
Red wine
Biodinamic

The colour is an intense and dark red, promise of a dense wine. The nose is refined, revealing aromas of dark and red fruits, violets, followed by toasted notes of spices such as cinnamon. The attack is juicy and full. The minerality with some nice saline notes brings out elegance and a nice long finish. The right acidity gives freshness and tension with a real density, it is well balanced. The fruit is rich and perfectly ripe. This wine doesn’t leave you!

2017 Château Fonroque

SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU CLASSE
93% Merlot 7%Cabernet franc
Red wine
Biodinamic

The colour is a nice purple and the deep nose develops blackberry, black cherry aromas combined with gingerbread notes. The attack is full with a nice classic dimension and harmony. With airing, the silky texture becomes velvety, revealing black fruit notes associated with violet and verbena. The long finish enhances the mineral nature of the wine, giving it a high potential that will develop during the ageing process. Density and length are surprising for this vintage.

2018 Château Fonroque

SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU CLASSE
82% Merlot 18% Cabernet franc
Red wine
Biodinamic

A deep, bright appearance. Very complex, airy and distinguished all in one, heralding a true journey on the nose. Delicately refined spice, strong minerality, and notes of undergrowth and flowery orchards. The wine is powerful, bursting with energy and very elegant on the palate. The finish is taut, lingering and airy, allowing a third, very spiritual dimension to emerge. A wine for wine lovers.
