Château Mazeyres is the fourth largest estate in Pomerol covering some 25.57 hectares (63 acres). The vineyard stretches over three distinct types of terroir to the west and to the south of the appellation : fine grave! with a little clay, giving fine, linear wines; then sand and clay in the south, which offer wines that are fleshy and round; and at the bottom of the plateau, the clay soils bring
more tight-knit and tannic wines. The Merlat grape is predominant, along with a growing propotion of Cabernet Franc, as well as some Petit Verdet. Alain Moueix has pursued his wine-growing convictions in total freedom: in the field of organic-growing, trials were introduced in 2010, leading to the completion of organic conversion in 2015. Then in the practice of biodynamic growing, which culminated in the first certified vintage being made in 2018. A vine-growing approach which, in the words of the director, "brings more freshness, relief and life to the wine". Alain Moueix's decision to choose biodynamic growing is not an end but instead a means : the means to go further in the search for harmony, which is central to his philosophy. Harmony in the vineyard, during the vinification and in the blend. Harmony between fruit aroma. tannins and oak. Harmony is also reached through the different containers used for the ageing : alongside traditionnal barrels are now concrete egg-shaped vats, foudres and amphoras. Everything perfectly integrated in order to
achieve an unity.
