2022 Battenfeld Spanier Mölsheim Riesling

VDP. Aus Ersten Lagen Rheinhessen
Riesling
White wine

Grown in the beautiful Zellertal. Deeply rooted in bare, stony soils of pure limestone with only a thin layer of topsoil, and exposed to the cool winds of the Donnersberg massif, the vines that provide our Mölsheim Riesling aus Ersten Lagen enjoy good ventilation during ripening. The result is singular wines of clear origin, with a crystalline and cool character and mineral depth.

2018 Battenfeld Spanier Mölsheim Riesling "Treasure Collection"

VDP. Aus Ersten Lagen Rheinhessen
Riesling
White wine

We see a sanctum for our wines during an extended maturation phase. That is why we have constructed under the earth an aging cellar. It represents a very different kind of space at our estate, one dedicated not to the intervention of the winemaker, but rather the natural time and space that a wine needs to develop. Each wine that leaves our estate after years of maturation receives a special "treasure collection sticker" that guarantees its provenance under the ideal conditions of the estate’s aging cellar

2022 Battenfeld Spanier Frauenberg GG

VDP. Grosse Lage Rheinhessen
Riesling
White wine

The historic site can be traced back through official documents to at least 1290, where it was called the “an frauwenhalten” and was in the possession of a nunnery. H.O. Spanier rescued the Frauenberg out of oblivion and back into the consciousness of wine lovers. While purely south facing, 280 meter high, the exposed site on the Frauenberg experiences constant cooling winds, with a broken limestone top layer and a base substrate of solid limestone. The vines dig deep into the hard, mineral-rich soil. This lends them a self-sustaining character and allows for long, healthy vegetative periods, even in extreme years. With a reputation that precedes itself, in its youth the Frauenberg is more of a sketch than a highly shaded and detailed self-portrait.The Frauenberg is a deeply mineral-driven wine which shows the precision of the mineral with an enormous ageing potential.

2022 Kühling-Gillot Nackenheim Riesling

VDP. Aus Ersten Lagen Rheinhessen
Riesling
White wine

Our Nackenheim sites draw their names and character from the bank of clayey slate that drives to the surface there, running for a stretch before disappearing back below to the south of Nierstein. The Nackenheim Riesling serves both as a prototype for this unique stone formation and as a showcase for why the Roter Hang and its wines are so coveted on the international stage. With considerable momentum, ripe fruit and enormous energy, the palate literally vibrates, driven by the spicy minerality of the Rotliegend.

2018 Kühling-Gillot Riesling Réserve vom Rotliegenden

VDP. Gutswein
Riesling
White wine

Origin and time define perfectly this Réserve wine. Five years after a beautiful harvest, it has reached the so-called "Treasure Collection", allowing us to
show the potential of our wines along the years. This cuvée was made with a special care, originating in our best plots from the VDP. Gutswein but also our single vineyards. 2018 was a year of superlatives: the stable, dry high-pressure weather with lots of sunshine over the summer months also shaped the picture in our vineyards.

2022 Kühling-Gillot Pettenthal GG

VDP. Grosse Lage Rheinhessen
Riesling
White wine

Pettenthal is our first historic site on the Roter Hang, situated at an elevation of 90 – 170 meters. With gradients measuring up to 70%, it is the steepest parcel in all of Rheinhessen. The soils on this Grosse Lage site comprise red clay slate and sandstone through the steep face and clay and loam on the flatter section. The higher the site, the more barren the soils, forcing the vines to dig deeper. Pettenthal’s ancient band of stone emerges at the surface in our parcels. With a minimal humus layer, the grapes here are rooted especially deep in the stone. Hints of stone take center stage, second only to the unmistakable Rotliegend notes in which it grows, as well as the distinctive spice of pepper and dried herbs. Pettenthal delivers incredible tension on the palate, energy and momentum, as it crescendos toward a powerful, driving bass on the finish. Timeless grandeur and elegance.
