Pian dell'Orino is situated 2 km southeast of Montalcino and has 11 ha of land, of which 6 ha are vineyards. They all are on the south-eastern slope of Montalcino, distributed among 4 different locations. Since 2004 we have classified our vineyards taking into consideration their different profiles. Every single quality of wine is, by way of these profiles, tied to a certain vineyard or portion of a vineyard. Geological and lithological parameters, soil texture, inclination, water supply are only some of the parameters we took in consideration.
We always try to apply the scientific knowledge of chronobiology in our biodynamic acting and follow the rhythm of nature.
During the vegetation period we pass several times to cut bunches with the aim to keep only the best grapes for vinification. During harvest, the berries undergo a strict selection first by hand and then passing an optical sorting machine. Only healthy and ripe berries end in the vinification vat. Neither artificial yeast or bacteria nor any other technological additives are used during the whole process of transformation in order to maintain the authentic and characteristic taste of our vineyards and of the vintage.
Then the wines are aged in big Slavonian and French oak barrels ranging from 10 to 50 hl.
The total production varies each year depending on the vintage between 12.000 and 18.000 bottles.
The winery is certified by ICEA for the organic agriculture and by AgriBio for the biodynamic agriculture.
